Mumbai Rains: City Records Over 300mm of Rainfall in 6 Hours, Leading to Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions

Heavy Downpour Causes Submergence of Key Roads and Low-Lying Areas

27 Flights Diverted, Schools and Colleges Closed for Half-Day

Mumbai, the financial capital of India, has been experiencing incessant rainfall since Thursday morning, leading to severe waterlogging and disruption of suburban train services. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded over 300mm of rainfall in just six hours, resulting in the submergence of key roads and low-lying areas. The heavy showers have also led to the diversion of 27 flights and the closure of schools and colleges for half-a-day.

The IMD has issued a red alert for Mumbai, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall in the coming hours. The city's civic authorities are on high alert and have deployed teams to pump out water from affected areas. Traffic has been severely affected due to waterlogging, and commuters are advised to use alternate routes or public transport.

The downpour has also caused disruptions in the city's rail network. Suburban train services on the Central and Western lines have been affected, with several trains being canceled or delayed. Passengers are advised to check train schedules before traveling.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advised citizens to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. The civic body has also set up a helpline number for residents to report any waterlogging or other rain-related issues.

The heavy rains are expected to continue for the next few days, and the IMD has advised citizens to take necessary precautions.
