Yellow Alert Issued for Mumbai, Orange Alert for Adjoining Regions
Heavy Rains Affect City, Suburbs
Waterlogging, Train Disruptions Reported
A heavy downpour hit Mumbai on Sunday, bringing 152mm of rainfall and causing significant waterlogging. The high tide reached a record 444m at noon, exacerbating the situation.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, indicating moderate rains in isolated pockets. For neighboring districts such as Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, an orange alert was in place, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in several areas, including the Kurla station on the Harbour line, causing disruption in suburban train services. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) advised residents against venturing out due to the high tide of 369 meters expected at 4:39 pm.
The IMD has forecast continued rainfall over the next 24 hours, with the possibility of localized flooding in low-lying areas. Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and stay alert.
